Robert Frost Bloom 039 s Modern Critical Views will be available on
A good example of this is Robert Frost’s poems The Road Not Taken and Nothing Gold can Stay in which he uses ordinary language unlike many other poets that became more experimental (Frost, Robert....

The narrative mode was not only central to Frost’s imaginative enterprise. It was also the form in which he worked most innovatively, though his remarkable originality has been only partially recognized. To borrow a phrase from his introduction to E. A. Robinson’s King Jasper, Frost had found an “old way to be new” so unobtrusively experimental that most critics and readers missed its sheer originality.

A nagging question in Frost criticism in the half-century since the author’s death has been where to place him in the larger narrative of American poetry. There has been no question about the magnitude of his achievement. Realizing “the utmost of ambition,” he lodged more than a few poems “where they will be hard to get rid of.” He ranks high on the short list of great American writers. Moreover, he remains one of the few modern poets in English still read, esteemed, and quoted by all types of people from elementary school kids and chaired professors to journalists and politicians. But after Modernism, popularity itself seems suspicious—an attribute associated with Longfellow and Whittier not Pound and Stevens.
Selecting poems for astudy of Frost's development as a poet isn't easy to do, anyway, since Frostcarefully orchestrated the publication of his poems with the exact intention ofshaping Òthe portrait of man and poet that [he] wanted to present" (Poirier45).

Of course, this isn't enough to identify either poem as "typical"of Frost, even though he is often quoted for having said that writing poetrywithout form is like playing tennis without a net (perhaps the least importantremark anyone could impute to Frost, but here I am, repeating it).
The ordinariness of the rural activity is presented in specific description, and as so often is found in Frost’s poems, the unprepossessing undertaking has much larger implications.

Love poems short for him from the heart
I'm not sure if it's overly ambitious or merely naive to select Frost'sfirst and last published poems as the basis of a study of his development as apoet.
Not all poems abide by Frost's rule.
This surprising reversal of focus is valuable for its originality. More importantly, it is also valuable in the thought that it provokes. Does Frost mean to suggest that if we turn our eyes to nature and its powersto restore itself we will be cheered about human violence? In thiscase, the surprising focus of the poem might be encouraging us to takea new, broader focus on the war, and find some assurance in a world thatcontains the natural as well as the human. Perhaps the poem evensuggests that people, like the creatures in the poem, will eventually reconstructtheir world (for example, go home from the war like the birds "revisiting"their nests).
His 'Nothing Gold Can Stay' poem is no exception.
These poems help to show people just some of the difficult things that will be faced in life, despite everything done to prevent them from happening....
"Choices." In Modern Critical Views: Robert Frost.
A number of poems--famous ones like "The Deathof the Hired Man" and "The Black Cottage"--published the following year inNorth of Boston, had been written as early as 1905 and 1906; Frost held themback, so that when they did appear in print, critics and readers would perceivea honing of his powers (Poirier 46).
'Nothing Gold Can Stay' shows just this....
Robert Frost proves this to be true in his poem “The Road Not Taken.” The metaphorical twist Frost uses in his words and sentence structure emphasizes the importance of different decisions and how those choices will impact the rest of one’s life.
As I said previously both poems are set in a farm enviroment.
We are left at the muted, ambiguous end of the poem looking for somemeaning--either redemptive or perhaps even critical--and find rather, likethe poem's spider, "nothing" (14). Perhaps readers preferring eitherstrong praise or stronger condemnation of the war would find this "nothing"a cop-out. I might have preferred a poem that more directly condemnedwar's violence. But the poem seems to me to succeed to the extentthat it captures a feeling of helplessness and confusion about war, when"range finding"--understanding how far down violence goes, and how bestto write about it--is exactly what one cannot do.
